Have a cleaner, you could invalidate your insurance?
You could be in for a nasty shock when you come to make a claim on your home insurance. Having employees (yes a cleaner is an employee) actively working in your home can in some cases negate your insurance.
Your home is deemed a home and not an office or factory. For example recently we had a laptop stolen from our home. The insurance company asked if this laptop was used for work. We replied yes. It appears that although we were covered a number of policies would not cover items used for work, or using the home as a workplace.
One solution to the problem is to check with your insurance company before hiring a new cleaner, obtain it in writing what is covered in the event of an accident or breakage. An alternative is to outsource the supply of your cleaner to a company. Many cleaning companies insure their cleaners and can include £1,000,000 public liability insurance. In line with all other insurance policies, there is often and excess to paid so again get anything in writing to be sure.
